Socialization Adventures

The "Socialization" Service is outlined as follows on the Dog Adventures Northwest website:

  • Pick-up and Drop-off

  • One hour of systematic desensitization and classical conditioning with a licensed, bonded, and insured rewards-based dog trainer

  • Service in-home or at sites like hardware stores, construction sites, on the edges of a playground, outside of a hospital, pet stores, etc (all based on dog readiness – we provide POSITIVE socialization experiences for your puppy!)

  • Midday meal and/or meds if desired

  • Photos of your dog's adventures

  • A ratio of one dog to one trainer

  • Ridiculous amounts of fun

Socialization Adventure Expectations

Contractors agree to do the following when delivering the Dog Adventures Northwest Country Adventure service:

  • Pick up and drop off the client dog within fifteen minutes of the approximate pick-up/drop-off time or no more than fifteen minutes outside of the pick-up/drop-off window.

  • Start service through the Time to Pet app upon arrival.

  • Treat a client's home and property with care and respect. Behave in a professional manner at all times. Assume that your behavior can be seen, heard, and recorded at any time while in or around a client's home. Do not allow any persons other than yourself onto a client's property or in a client's home.

  • In the event of anticipated or actual lateness, alert both the client and Dog Adventures Northwest via text or phone call.

  • Send the client a brief text to tell them you have picked up their dog (if they are not home at pick-up).

  • Allow the client dog the chance to pee and/or poop before loading them up into a vehicle or returning them home.

  • Transport the client dog to and from the Socialization location(s) safely, using tethers, grates, crates, and/or dog restraint systems.

  • Carry a valid driver's license and current car insurance while driving with client dogs.

  • Bring the following supplies on all adventures: high-value treats, bags for waste disposal, a leash for every dog, collar identification for every dog, a charged cell phone, citronella spray such as SprayShield, a small first aid kit, and fresh water when water is not readily available or is unsafe for the dogs to drink. Optional items include a chuck-it or other fetch tools/toys.

  • Maintain a ratio of one dog to one human. Contractors' dogs and other client dogs are not allowed on Socialization Adventures.

  • Engage in one hour of active socialization at a Dog Adventures Northwest pre-approved location using positive reinforcement, desensitization, and classical counterconditioning. All experiences and interactions must be positive for the client dog. The client dogs must be kept under threshold at all times.

  • Take photographs of client dogs for the report card.

  • Reinforce desirable dog behavior (sit, down, come, drop-it, leave-it, stay, etc.) using positive reinforcement and negative punishment operant conditioning.

  • Manage undesirable behavior (jumping up, resource guarding, leash reactivity, mouthiness, bullying, mounting, etc).

  • Absolutely refrain from positive punishment and negative reinforcement operant conditioning, either through training or management tools.

  • Follow the standard operating procedures in the "Safety and Emergencies" section of the online trainer portal.

  • Upon return to a client's home, towel-dry the dog's coat and clean the dog's paws; if a dog is sufficiently muddy, hose them off using the client's spigot and hose.

  • Follow all drop-off instructions from the client, including feeding, medications, and containment, if requested by the client.

  • Stop service through the Time to Pet app upon departure.

  • Fill out a spell-checked and grammar-checked report card through the Time to Pet app upon departure, including a write-up, photos, and answers to prompted questions.

  • If important information has been discussed with the client in person at pick-up or drop-off, or via text with the client at any time, sum up the information and enter it into the "Conversation" feed on the client's Time to Pet page.

  • Absolutely refrain from alcohol, drug use, and cigarette smoking while in the presence of clients and client dogs. Be completely sober from drugs and alcohol while in the presence of clients and client dogs.

  • Fill out the "Private Note" field on the client's Time to Pet profile and the "Trainer-to-Trainer Private Note" on each pet's Time to Pet profile with helpful information once you have gotten to know the clients and the dog(s).
