Adventure Board and Train

The "Adventure Board and Train" Service is outlined as follows on the Dog Adventures Northwest website:

  • 24 hours of care with a licensed, bonded, and insured rewards-based dog trainer in a trainer's home

  • One Country Adventure or Socialization Adventure per day, depending on the pup's needs

  • One focused 1-hour training session per day

  • Behavior management and rewards-based mini-lessons throughout the day

  • A daily report on your pup's training goals and progress

  • Daily photos of your dog's adventures

  • Meals and medications

  • Ridiculous amounts of fun (and cuddles!)

  • One free family private training session for every seven nights booked

Adventure Board and Train Expectations

Contractors agree to do the following when delivering the Dog Adventures Northwest Adventure School service:

  • If important information has been discussed with the client in-person at drop-off or pick-up or via text with the client at any time, sum up the information and enter it into the "Conversation" feed on the client's Time to Pet page.

  • Transport the client dog safely, using tethers, grates, crates, and/or dog restraint systems.

  • Carry a valid driver's license and current car insurance while driving with client dogs.

  • Be with the client dog continuously from 10pm to 8am unless specific alternate arrangements have been made with both the client and the Dog Adventures Northwest Manager.

  • Be with the client dog for a minimum of eight of the remaining fourteen hours, and with no more than four hours of continuous absence from the dog, unless specific alternate arrangements have been made with both the client and the Dog Adventures Northwest Manager.

  • Engage in a total of two hours of active adventuring at a Dog Adventures Northwest pre-approved location per day OR one hour of one-on-one socialization, depending on the dog's needs.

  • Provide one hour of focused training per day.

  • Maintain the Dog Adventures Northwest ratio of four dogs to one human. This includes the Contractor's own dogs, and dogs in their care through other businesses.

  • Bring the following supplies on all adventures: high-value treats, bags for waste disposal, a leash for every dog, collar identification for every dog, a charged cell phone, citronella spray such as SprayShield, a small first aid kit, and fresh water when water is not readily available or is unsafe for the dogs to drink. Optional items include a chuck-it or other fetch tools/toys.

  • Keep all client dogs moving. Taking breaks is acceptable for the health of the dog, but breaks must be well-managed to limit undesirable behavior that arises out of boredom or idleness.

  • Take photographs of client dogs for the report card.

  • Actively practice recall using positive reinforcement training.

  • Reinforce desirable dog behavior (sit, down, come, drop-it, leave-it, stay, etc.) using positive reinforcement and negative punishment operant conditioning.

  • Manage undesirable behavior (jumping up, resource guarding, leash reactivity, mouthiness, bullying, mounting, etc).

  • Absolutely refrain from positive punishment and negative reinforcement operant conditioning, either through training or management tools.

  • Follow all instructions from the client for animal care, including feeding, medications, and containment.

  • Notify both the client and the Dog Adventures Northwest Manager if an animal appears sick or injured in any way, or if there has been a notable behavior change.

  • Follow the standard operating procedures in the "Safety and Emergencies" section of the online trainer portal.

  • Start service and stop service through the Time to Pet app once per night of service. To lessen cell phone battery use, service does not need to be "started" through the Time to Pet app at the beginning of the service. Instead, Contractors may click "start service" and "stop service" in succession once per day.

  • Fill out a spell-checked and grammar-checked report card through the Time to Pet app once per night, including a write-up, photos, and answers to prompted questions.

  • Towel-dry the dog's coat and clean the dog's paws before pick-up; if a dog is sufficiently muddy, hose them off using the client's spigot and hose. (Bathing is an "above and beyond" service, but often appreciated by clients for longer stays.)

  • Follow all drop-off instructions from the client, including feeding, medications, and containment, if requested by the client.

  • Absolutely refrain from alcohol, drug use, and cigarette smoking while in the presence of clients and client dogs. Be completely sober from drugs and alcohol while in the presence of clients and client dogs.

  • Fill out the "Private Note" field on the client's Time to Pet profile and the "Trainer-to-Trainer Private Note" on each pet's Time to Pet profile with helpful information once you have gotten to know the clients and the dog(s).
